The most established route to a B.Tech Aerospace degree in Pune district. Set up under a Maharashtra state Act, operational since 2016; the engineering school runs Aerospace alongside Mechanical, Civil, ECE, and Robotics & AI.

Approval: UGC-recognised State Private University, NAAC 'A' (CGPA 3.11) in its first cycle, with AICTE approvals as applicable.

Eligibility: 10+2 PCM, 50% aggregate (45% reserved) with English, plus a valid MHT-CET or JEE Main score.

Admission: Direct application to the university with your entrance score; merit-based counselling. Runs outside Maharashtra CAP — apply in parallel.

Fees: Official listing shows ~9.89 lakh total for the four-year programme, excluding hostel/mess.

Placements: The official aerospace page names DRDO, NAL, Boeing and Airbus among destinations, with claimed strong placement support — but branch-wise placement statistics aren't published separately, so ask the department directly for the last three years' aerospace-specific numbers.

Labs & research: Machine, welding, aircraft-engine, electrical and instrumentation workshops, plus a makerspace; research projects begin from the fourth semester, with stated industry interaction, guest lectures and internships.

Best for: Students wanting a proper four-year aerospace curriculum without leaving Pune.

2. School of Engineering, Ajeenkya D Y Patil University (ADYPU)

Lists B.Tech Aerospace Engineering with an industry-oriented, project-heavy format.

Eligibility: 10+2 with ~50%, Physics and Maths compulsory.

Admission: Primarily the university's own entrance test and interview; JEE Main/MHT-CET also considered. Outside CAP.

Fees: Public listings suggest ~10–12 lakh total — we couldn't access the university's own fee page, so get the official circular before paying.

Placements: Not publicly available branch-wise — ask the department for its own record. Best for: Students who want a smaller cohort and flexible format, and will drive their own internships.

3. Indian Institute for Aeronautical Engineering & Information Technology (IIAEIT), Shivane

Advertises four-year B.Tech Aerospace and B.Tech Aeronautical Engineering, run with the Aeronautical Engineering & Research Organization (AERO).

Eligibility: 10+2 PCM/PCB with 45% (40% reserved), or a 3-year diploma, plus the institute's own SPACE-CET.

What we couldn't verify: which university awards the degree, AICTE approval status, or fees — none of these are published on the programme page.

Counsellor's warning: get three things in writing before paying anything — (1) the degree-awarding university's name, (2) its AICTE/UGC approval status, (3) the complete four-year fee structure. Cross-check the university against UGC's recognised list. If the institute hesitates, walk away — an unrecognised degree fails you at GATE, government job eligibility, and foreign admissions.

4. DIAT, Girinagar — Your Postgraduate Target

DIAT is a Deemed University under the Ministry of Defence with a genuine Aerospace Engineering & Autonomous Systems department — but only PhD, M.Tech and M.Sc. No B.Tech.

We include it deliberately: it's the best answer to "how do I get into Indian defence aerospace research from Pune?" Do your B.Tech anywhere credible, prepare seriously for GATE, and target DIAT for M.Tech. Check the official DIAT notification each year for eligibility.

5. Pune Institute of Aviation Technology — The Maintenance Pathway

DGCA-approved for Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (CAR-147, B1.1 & B2), affiliated to SPPU for its B.Sc (Aviation).

Not a lesser track, a different one — AME leads to licensed maintenance roles at airlines and MROs. But AME is not a B.Tech and doesn't make you eligible for engineering-degree-gated roles or M.Tech admission. Choose it because you want to work on aircraft, not as a fallback for a missed B.Tech seat.

Aerospace vs Aeronautical vs Mechanical

At UG level, Aeronautical and Aerospace overlap heavily — don't agonise over the name on the certificate; employers look at your projects. Aerospace vs Mechanical is the bigger call: Mechanical is safer and wider, and a strong Mechanical graduate can still enter aerospace via M.Tech or design roles. Choose Aerospace with your eyes open, not on launch-video momentum.
