CollegePune Editorial

We ranked the top 10 MBA and PGDM colleges in Pune on official fee sheets and placement reports: SIBM, PUMBA, SCMHRD, SIIB, NIBM, SIMS and more. Every fee, cutoff and median package is sourced and dated, and every aggregator figure that did not match the official one is flagged.

By CollegePune Research Desk | CollegePune Editorial | Data retrieved 23 September 2026. Every fee, cutoff and placement figure below carries its source and the source's own date.

The Pune MBA decision usually gets framed as "Symbiosis or not," and that framing hides the most expensive mistake in this market. A government department on the SPPU campus charges a small fraction of what the Symbiosis schools charge and still places its average graduate above ₹10 LPA, while at least three well-known private names cost ₹10 lakh or more and report medians near ₹5 to 8 LPA. Worse, the fee you see on an aggregator is often not the fee you pay: for this article we found one major portal listing SIBM Pune's one-year fee as its two-year total, and another listing a Symbiosis school's defence-quota fee as the fee a civilian pays. This ranking uses official fee sheets and placement reports wherever they exist, and flags every number we could not reconcile.

Quick answer

The best MBA college in Pune for most students with a high SNAP score is SIBM Pune: NIRF 2025 management rank 11, a 2024-26 average of ₹28.18 LPA and a reported median of ₹27 LPA, against an official 2026-28 academic fee of ₹26.2 lakh. Best value: PUMBA (SPPU's Department of Management Sciences), with 2024-26 highest package of ₹19 LPA and average near ₹11 LPA at a fee measured in thousands per year, if you clear roughly the 99th MAH MBA CET percentile. Best PGDM for banking and finance: NIBM Pune, where the 2024-26 PGDM batch reports a ₹13 LPA median with 98% placed so far. Best for defence families: SIMS Pune, where 90% of MBA seats are reserved for defence personnel and dependants and the defence fee is about ₹6.6 lakh lower than the civilian fee.

How this ranking was built

We scored 10 MBA and PGDM programmes in Pune on four weighted factors. The weights reflect what actually decides whether a two-year management degree pays off.

FactorWeightWhat we measured
Placement outcome40%Median package from the latest batch with data; average package where no median is published
Cost-to-outcome25%Median (or average) package divided by the official two-year academic fee
Academic strength20%NIRF 2025 management rank, NAAC grade of the parent university, NBA accreditation, AICTE status
Entrance-score stability15%How high and how consistent the shortlisting or closing percentile band has been across years

Scores were normalised to 10 and combined. The academic and entrance scores are editorial judgements based on the signals listed, so treat the ranks as a structured opinion, not a statistic. Where two sources disagreed on a fee by more than about 15%, we used the official figure if we found one; if not, we used the higher figure for scoring and flagged it in the text. NIRF 2026 management rankings had not been published when this was written, according to MBAUniverse.

Top 10 MBA and PGDM colleges in Pune 2026, ranked

1. Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Pune

  • Type and approval: MBA, constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Lavale. The institute's own site states SIU is re-accredited by NAAC with A++.
  • Ranking: NIRF 2025 management rank 11, score 67.90 (NIRF; confirmed by MBAUniverse). It was the only Pune management institute in the NIRF 2025 list we retrieved.
  • Fees (2026-28, official): Academic fee of ₹6,55,000 per instalment across four instalments, which is ₹26,20,000 for two years. Year-one hostel (three-sharing) is ₹1,57,300 and mess is ₹1,19,600, plus ₹40,000 in refundable deposits. Hostel and mess can rise up to 15% a year. Source: SIBM fee sheet, Batch 2026-2028, retrieved 23 Sep 2026.
  • Aggregator warning: Collegedunia's SIBM MBA page (retrieved 23 Sep 2026) lists "total academic fees" of ₹13,30,000, which matches one year of the official sheet, not two. Cracku (31 Aug 2026) gives the two-year academic total as roughly ₹26.2 to 27 lakh, consistent with the official sheet.
  • Entrance and cutoff: SNAP only. Symbiosis does not publish official percentile cutoffs; coaching estimates put SIBM Pune's shortlist at 98+ (Cracku, 20 Jul 2026) to 98.5+ (Careers360, 13 Jan 2026). Both are expected figures, not official ones.
  • Placements (2024-26): Average ₹28.18 LPA, highest ₹74.84 LPA (Cracku, 9 Sep 2026; Shiksha). Cracku also reports a median of ₹27 LPA and 132 PPOs; we found no second source for those two figures.
  • Recruiters (per Cracku): Amazon, Flipkart, JPMorgan Chase, ICICI Bank, EY, PwC, ITC, L'Oréal, Marico.
  • The non-brochure insight: A median of ₹27 LPA against an average of ₹28.18 LPA is an unusually small gap. It means the average is not being carried by a handful of outlier offers, which is exactly what a student in the middle of the batch should care about.
  • Best for: 98+ SNAP percentile candidates who want the highest verified typical outcome in Pune.

2. Department of Management Sciences, SPPU (PUMBA)

  • Type and approval: MBA, a government university department of Savitribai Phule Pune University, Ganeshkhind. Collegedunia lists SPPU's NAAC grade as A; we could not confirm this against a second source, so verify on the NAAC portal.
  • Fees: [Conflicting data: Collegedunia states a total of ₹3 lakh for two years, but the same page cites a first-year fee of ₹66,194 and a second-year fee of ₹62,464, which total about ₹1.29 lakh. Confirm the current figure on SPPU's official fee notice.] Either way, it is the cheapest programme on this list by a wide margin. We used ₹3 lakh for scoring.
  • Entrance and cutoff: MAH MBA CET through the state CAP process, plus All India seats. 2025 CAP Round 1 closing: All India 99.85 percentile and GOPENH (general, home university) 98.97 percentile (Careers360). GetMyUni reports 99.89 for All India across rounds 1 to 3.
  • Placements (2024-26): Highest ₹19 LPA, average ₹10.93 LPA, top-10% average ₹14.72 LPA, batch of 217 (Collegedunia News, 21 Sep 2025, published while placements were ongoing). Shiksha also lists a highest package of ₹19 LPA, and KollegeApply's listing shows an average of ₹11.23 LPA. For 2024, Collegedunia reports an average of ₹9.40 LPA, highest ₹16.22 LPA and 80.7% placed.
  • Recruiters (per Collegedunia): Deloitte, ICICI Bank, HDFC, SBI Life, Tata Motors.
  • The non-brochure insight: Of the 217 students in the 2024-26 batch, 148 were engineers and 101 chose finance, so campus hiring skews towards BFSI and analyst roles. The 80.7% placement rate in 2024 is the real trade-off for the fee: roughly one student in five did not convert through campus that year.
  • Best for: Maharashtra candidates with a 99+ MAH MBA CET percentile who want maximum return per rupee.

3. Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development (SCMHRD)

  • Type and approval: MBA, constituent of SIU, Hinjewadi. SIU holds NAAC A++ (Collegedunia). SCMHRD's own MBA page describes it as AACSB accredited (scmhrd.edu).
  • Fees (2026-28): [Conflicting data: Collegedunia (updated 9 Sep 2026) says ₹25.82 lakh academic (₹6.46 lakh per semester) and ₹30.46 lakh with hostel and mess; Careers360 (updated 19 Jan 2026) says ₹26,54,300 including hostel, mess and deposits. Confirm on pgadmissions.scmhrd.edu before paying.]
  • Entrance and cutoff: SNAP. Expected shortlist band 97 to 98+ percentile (Cracku; Careers360). Selection weight per Careers360: SNAP 50, group exercise 10, personal interview 40.
  • Placements (2023-25): Average ₹21.47 LPA, median ₹20 LPA, highest ₹35.90 LPA (Careers360; Collegedunia). For 2024-26, Campusutra (updated 3 Aug 2026) reports average ₹21.90 LPA, median ₹20 LPA and highest ₹38 LPA; single source.
  • Recruiters: Accenture, JPMC and Bain & Company appear in both Collegedunia's and Campusutra's lists.
  • The non-brochure insight: SCMHRD's average fell from ₹24.28 LPA (2022-24, Collegedunia) to ₹21.47 LPA (2023-25) while fees kept rising. Its SNAP bar is within a percentile or so of SIBM's, yet the median is about ₹7 LPA lower.
  • Best for: 97 to 98 SNAP scorers, especially those targeting HR, which is SCMHRD's traditional strength.

4. Symbiosis Institute of International Business (SIIB)

  • Type and approval: MBA (International Business, Agri-Business, Energy and Environment), constituent of SIU, Hinjewadi.
  • Fees (2026-28, official, MBA-IB): ₹5,15,500 per instalment across four instalments, which is ₹20,62,000 in academic fees, plus a ₹20,000 refundable deposit (SIIB fee structure, retrieved 23 Sep 2026). Collegedunia lists ₹23.17 lakh for MBA-IB and ₹15.53 lakh for Agri-Business.
  • Entrance and cutoff: [Conflicting data: Careers360 expects 93+ and Cracku 91 to 93 for MBA-IB, while Collegedunia gives 75 to 80 and CollegeDekho 82 to 92. These are all unofficial estimates; verify against SIU's shortlist before relying on any of them.]
  • Placements (2023-25, official): MBA-IB highest ₹27.60 LPA, average ₹16 LPA, median ₹15 LPA. MBA-Agri Business highest ₹21.60 LPA, average ₹12.60 LPA, median ₹11 LPA. MBA-Energy and Environment median ₹12 LPA (SIIB placement report 2023-25). Collegedunia matches the IB and Agri-Business figures.
  • Recruiters (per Collegedunia): Adani Group, Nestlé, EY, Tata Motors, Accenture, ITC, KPMG.
  • The non-brochure insight: Programme choice changes the outcome by ₹4 LPA on the same campus. The IB median is ₹15 LPA; the Agri-Business median is ₹11 LPA.
  • Best for: Students aiming at trade, supply chain, export and international business roles.

5. National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM), Pune

  • Type and approval: PGDM (Banking and Financial Services), AICTE approved (NIBM PGDM site). Collegedunia lists NBA accreditation and a NIRF 2025 management band of 101-125, which Zollege also shows.
  • Fees (2026-28, official): Academic fees across six terms total ₹15,36,000. Adding hostel at ₹36,000 per term, alumni fees and ₹20,000 in refundable deposits, the total payable is ₹17,84,000 (NIBM fee structure 2026-28). Collegedunia lists ₹17.84 lakh as academic fees "excluding hostel" and adds ₹1.08 lakh for hostel, which double-counts the hostel already included in the official total.
  • Entrance and cutoff: CAT, XAT, CMAT, GMAT. Collegedunia gives a CAT cutoff of 94 percentile (general) for 2026-28; single source.
  • Placements (2024-26, official, cycle not yet closed): Batch 130, 128 placed (98%), highest ₹18 LPA, average ₹13.50 LPA, median ₹13 LPA, 14 PPOs, 36+ recruiters (NIBM placement report 2024-26).
  • The non-brochure insight: The spread is narrow: highest ₹18 LPA, median ₹13 LPA. You will not get a headline-grabbing offer here, but the outcome is predictable, which counts for a lot at this fee.
  • Best for: Students certain they want banking, NBFC or financial services careers.

6. Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (SIMS), Pune

  • Type and approval: MBA, constituent of SIU, Khadki. SIU NAAC A++.
  • Seat reservation (official): 80% Defence Open, 10% Defence Special, and only 10% Open (civilian), under an MoU with the Ministry of Defence (sims.edu, retrieved 23 Sep 2026).
  • Fees (2026-28, official): Defence category ₹3,50,000 per instalment, so ₹14,00,000 in total. Open (civilian) category ₹5,15,200 per instalment, so ₹20,60,800 in total. Hostel is ₹1,05,900 a year and mess ₹1,19,600 a year (sims.edu).
  • Aggregator warning: [Conflicting data: Collegedunia lists ₹14.2 lakh (HR, Marketing, Operations) and ₹18.93 lakh (Finance, Data Analytics) with no category split. A civilian reading ₹14 lakh would under-budget by about ₹6.6 lakh.]
  • Entrance and cutoff: SNAP. Open-category cutoff of 77 percentile for 2025-27 (Collegedunia); Careers360 expects 77+.
  • Placements (2023-25): Highest ₹21 LPA (Collegedunia; Shiksha). Collegedunia reports a top-50% average of ₹13.5 LPA and 40 PPOs; Shiksha describes the same ₹13.5 LPA as the average of the "top 50 students." No median is published.
  • Best for: Children, wards and spouses of defence personnel. For civilians, the 10% seat share and ₹20.6 lakh fee make SIIB a closer comparison than the 77-percentile cutoff suggests.

7. Pune Institute of Business Management (PIBM)

  • Type and approval: PGDM, AICTE approved, Mulshi. [Conflicting data: Zollege lists PIBM in the NIRF 2025 management band of 101-125, while Collegedunia says PIBM does not appear in NIRF 2025. Check nirfindia.org before quoting a rank.]
  • Fees (2026-28): ₹9.40 to 9.55 lakh tuition for standard PGDM tracks (Collegedunia, 26 Aug 2026); Zollege lists ₹9.56 lakh. Hostel and mess are extra at ₹2 to 2.5 lakh a year (Collegedunia).
  • Entrance: CAT, XAT, CMAT, MAT, ATMA, MAH-CET or PIBM's own PMAT. No minimum percentile is published.
  • Placements: Average ₹10.3 LPA, highest ₹26 LPA for the batch graduating in 2026 (MBAUniverse, 4 Jan 2026, placements ongoing; Collegedunia). Collegedunia adds a median of ₹8.15 LPA and 85% placed.
  • The non-brochure insight: The average is about 26% above the median, so a small group of high offers lifts the headline number. Plan around ₹8 LPA, not ₹10 LPA.
  • Best for: Moderate scorers who want a structured PGDM without a high-percentile gate.

8. Institute of Management Development and Research (IMDR), Pune

  • Type and approval: PGDM, AICTE approved, NBA accredited, with AIU MBA equivalence (Collegedunia; NBA also confirmed by TimesOfCollege). Located at Deccan Gymkhana.
  • Fees: ₹6 lakh for two years (Collegedunia); ₹5 to 6 lakh (Careers360, 20 Jan 2026).
  • Entrance and cutoff: CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT, MAH-CET, ATMA, GMAT. Collegedunia lists general cutoffs of CAT 80, MAT 67 and CMAT 60, and a 2024 MAH-CET Round 1 cutoff of 64.85 percentile; single source.
  • Placements: Collegedunia reports an average of ₹6.11 LPA, a median of ₹6.19 LPA and a highest of ₹14.71 LPA, aggregated over five years. TimesOfCollege reports an average of ₹6.75 LPA and a highest of ₹14.75 LPA with no batch year. Neither gives a single recent batch, so treat these as indicative.
  • The non-brochure insight: Collegedunia lists hostel capacity of 44 seats for men and 10 for women. The central location is a real advantage, but most outstation students will pay private rent on top of the low fee.
  • Best for: A budget capped near ₹6 lakh, with a CAT score around the 80th percentile or a mid-range CET.

9. Balaji Institute of Modern Management (BIMM), Pune

  • Type and approval: MBA, now offered under Sri Balaji University, Tathawade (Collegedunia; CollegeDekho). Older listings still describe it as PGDM.
  • Fees: ₹12,85,000 for 2026-28 (Collegedunia); CollegeDekho (8 Jul 2026) lists ₹11.15 to 12.55 lakh by specialisation. Hostel is optional at up to ₹1.2 lakh a year.
  • Entrance: CAT, XAT, CMAT, MAT, MAH MBA CET, ATMA (Collegedunia); CollegeDekho also lists SBEST and a selection weighting of 70% entrance score, 20% GD-PI and 10% academics and experience. No official cutoff is published.
  • Placements (2022-24): Average ₹8.75 LPA, median ₹7.5 LPA, highest ₹21.58 LPA, 339 students placed (Collegedunia; CollegeDekho). This is the latest batch we could verify, so it is at least two years old.
  • Best for: Marketing-focused students in the Pimpri-Chinchwad and Hinjewadi belt who are fine with an outcome around ₹7.5 LPA.

10. MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU) School of Business

  • Type and approval: MBA, private university, Kothrud. Collegedunia lists NAAC grade A; verify on the NAAC portal.
  • Fees: ₹10.5 lakh for standard MBA specialisations, ₹14.2 lakh for MBA Dual, ₹20 lakh for MBA Luxury Brand Management (Careers360, 16 Sep 2026; Collegedunia, 7 Sep 2026). CollegeDekho's older page (Sep 2025) shows ₹4.55 lakh a year. Collegedunia lists hostel at ₹4.14 lakh.
  • Entrance: CAT, XAT, NMAT, GMAT, PERA, CMAT or MAH-CET, with 60% in graduation (Careers360; CollegeDekho).
  • Placements: Careers360 (16 Sep 2026) reports a NIRF-reported median of ₹5.37 LPA across 1,296 placed PG two-year students for 2025-26. That covers all PG programmes, not just the MBA. The same page puts the Business and Leadership department's average at ₹6.61 LPA with a highest of ₹20 LPA.
  • The contrarian note: MIT-WPU's campus and specialisation range are real strengths, but at ₹10.5 lakh with a university-wide PG median near ₹5.4 LPA, you pay about two rupees of fees per rupee of first-year salary. At SIBM the ratio is closer to one to one.
  • Best for: Students who want a niche specialisation (luxury brands, construction, healthcare) and value campus life above placement arithmetic.

Considered but not ranked: Indira Institute of Management (the official PGDM fee for 2025-27 is ₹8,50,000 per indiraiimppgdm.edu.in, but the placement data we found was for its SPPU MBA, not the PGDM), ISB&M, Ajeenkya DY Patil University and Pimpri Chinchwad University. None had MBA or PGDM batch-level placement data from two independent sources at the time of writing.

Admission process for MBA and PGDM in Pune (2027 intake)

  1. Write the entrance exam. CAT 2026 is on 29 November 2026; registration closed on 15 September 2026 (Collegedunia, citing iimcat.ac.in). SNAP 2026 runs on 13, 19 and 26 December 2026, with registration open until 25 November 2026 and results expected on 12 January 2027 (MBAUniverse; Shiksha). MAH MBA CET is run by the State CET Cell; check cetcell.mahacet.org for the 2027 dates.
  2. Apply to each programme separately. For Symbiosis, the SNAP fee is ₹2,550 per attempt, and each MBA programme needs its own ₹1,000 registration by 25 November 2026 (MBAUniverse). PGDM schools such as NIBM, PIBM and IMDR run their own application forms.
  3. Shortlist and GE-PI or GD-PI. Symbiosis runs group exercise, personal interaction and WAT rounds after SNAP results, typically in February and March.
  4. Allotment. For PUMBA and other CAP seats, the State CET Cell runs centralised rounds. The 2026 cycle had reached Round IV allotment by September 2026 (Shiksha, updated 12 Sep 2026).
  5. Fee payment. Symbiosis collects the first instalment at the time of admission. At SIBM that is ₹9,12,100 including year-one hostel, mess and deposits (official fee sheet).

The mistakes that cost seats: First, paying only the SNAP exam fee. MBAUniverse quotes the SNAP rules: paying only the exam fee "will not make you eligible for shortlisting in any programme." Second, budgeting from an aggregator figure. The SIBM, SIMS and NIBM examples above show errors ranging from about ₹1 lakh to nearly ₹13 lakh, and a student who cannot pay the first instalment on time loses the offer.

Symbiosis fee sheets state that hostel and mess charges for the second year are announced later and can rise by up to 15% a year, so budget for that increase. On scholarships, we did not find institute-level scholarship amounts from two independent sources for any college on this list. Reserved-category students admitted to CAP seats should check eligibility on the Maharashtra government's MahaDBT portal (mahadbt.maharashtra.gov.in) and confirm directly with the institute.

Choosing by entrance score and budget

SNAP 97 percentile and above

SIBM Pune first, then SCMHRD. The median gap between them (₹27 LPA versus ₹20 LPA) is large enough that a strong SNAP score should go to SIBM if you convert the interview.

MAH MBA CET 99 percentile and above

PUMBA, which should be on your list before any private college charging ₹10 lakh or more. Its average near ₹11 LPA is below the Symbiosis schools, but no programme here comes close on cost-to-outcome.

CAT 90 to 95 percentile with a finance interest

NIBM. The official 2024-26 median of ₹13 LPA at a ₹17.84 lakh all-in fee is the strongest finance-specific outcome in the city.

Budget under ₹10 lakh

PUMBA if your CET score allows, then IMDR (₹5 to 6 lakh) or PIBM (about ₹9.5 lakh). Plan around their medians of ₹6 to 8 LPA, not the headline averages.

Defence family background

SIMS. Nine in ten seats are reserved for you and the fee is ₹14 lakh instead of ₹20.6 lakh.

Frequently asked questions

On verified 2024-26 data, SIBM Pune. It is NIRF 2025 management rank 11 and reports an average of ₹28.18 LPA, with a reported median of ₹27 LPA. It needs a SNAP score widely estimated at 98 percentile or higher.

What is the cheapest good MBA college in Pune?

PUMBA, SPPU's Department of Management Sciences. Its 2024-26 batch reported a highest package of ₹19 LPA and an average near ₹11 LPA. Sources disagree on the exact fee (₹1.3 lakh to ₹3 lakh for two years), but either figure is the lowest on this list.

How much does an MBA at Symbiosis Pune cost in total?

It depends on the institute. SIBM Pune's official 2026-28 academic fee is ₹26.2 lakh, plus about ₹2.77 lakh for first-year hostel and mess. SIIB MBA-IB is ₹20.62 lakh in academic fees. SIMS is ₹20.61 lakh for civilians and ₹14 lakh for defence candidates.

Symbiosis does not publish official cutoffs. Coaching estimates put SIBM Pune at 98 to 98.5+ and SCMHRD at 97 to 98+. The SNAP score is only part of selection; at SCMHRD, per Careers360, it counts for 50 of 100 marks, with the rest from group exercise and interview.
